No, there's some HDTV that support CC via component and possibly HDMI, such as Sony.
It won't work on Sanyo, Westinghouse, Samsung and Philips, 3 of them has been tested before.
You have to ask defmatrixense because he did watch DVD movies and CC is shown on screen via component cable, he have Sony HDTV.
