I will give you a few examples:
Remember the history about black and white people who don't share their bathrooms/fountain drinks in old days ? They don't ride in the SAME bus. It took years for them to allow/accept them BOTH to ride in the SAME bus.
And, also Hitler who hated Jews, black, or any dark race... and he wanted them dead by killings. It took years for them to accept Jews, black or any dark race to live in Germany.
Same goes with homosexuals/lesbians/or transgenders - they don't come out of the closets for a loong time because, of religion issue & other things. It may take awhile or a long time for people to accept them just like the rest of its history from the past.
It was always the word, the " hatred " or " opposed " to that kind of idea that people who are not gettin' used to, because of the way they were growin' up. They were never taught about these things at schools in old days and everythin' was soo new to them and they don't know what to think or say about things like this. It's soo hard for them to understand, because of their children they are protectin' over against it. Some people were afraid that it may influence their children to become one like them or what ever that is to them.
Right now, I noticed some schools are now teachin' about " tolerance " via acceptin' homosexuals/lesbians/or transgenders nowdays. I've never seen like this ( schools ) before, because it was NEVER taught in my school in old days. Sooo... as you can see, it may take awhile for things to change slowly just like the rest of history from the past.
Be patient and give it time - one day, there will be no more discrimination.

Unforunately, discrimination will not end no matter how hard we fight. I believe in future it will be less discrimination but there will always new things for people to discriminate. I won't be surprised if people will hate clones (when people started to clone people) or robots (they're slated to be on street within few years from now what I heard). Clones and robots might end up fighting for their rights too.
