Hmm....the way you explained the situation, the wife definitely has legitimate concerns. But I don't know much about SSDI or SSI so I can't help there.

HOWEVER, I want to point out that the husband probably would have to pay a lot of tax on that $100,000. I don't know how much that would be -- I'm no accountant. But, I'd strongly recommend that the husband put aside about 20% (about $20,000) for Uncle Sam just in case. Otherwise, they would be in worse trouble than the SSDI situation.
