First step, get an audiogram done from your audi and bring it with u to the SSA office
2nd step, find the nearest SSA office
3rd step, walk in or call for an appt
and go from there...they will guide u thru the paperwork.
That's what I did after my ex left me while in my first semester of grad school. I was all alone and all panicky so some of my deaf friends told me to go appy so I did and it saved my ass in which I was able to finish school and get a better job.
Good luck!

Dixie, if you don't have state medical coupon u may first apply for SSI or SSDI-if u have had worked at least 5 yrs (my friend has only about 5 yrs working got qualified for SSDI! I knew alot people said at least 10 years not true, maybe different states-different coworkers giving approval, worth a try) SSA office where u applied for SSDI or SSI they will pay u for audiotory/ENT also ur trip for gas or taxi too.
good luck!
