Protection from what? You admitted that you would not place yourself in a dangerous situation.
You also admitted that if you were confronted by a potentially dangerous individual, you would, and I quote, "shit your pants". That kind of fear is contradictory to having a firearm to protect yourself. You are more likely to shoot an innocent electric meter reader because you see some sort of threat that isn't there. Just like the guy I mentioned yesterday that killed his daughter in law because he thought she was an intruder.
