WildKatress - I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog. Animals are like family and they are large part of our life. Can't imagine losing a companionship like that. I went through the same thing like you are going through right now...

I had a 17 year old family cat named "Penny" died on July 12, 1998, imagine I remembered the date. My mom and I took it *very* hard when she died. Things weren't the same without her around and all the things she did were just not there anymore which hurts us even more. Mom and I talked and cried about her all day and night on the day she died.

After I got married in 2001, I made an extra photo of her in my bedroom on my bureau because it makes me feel closer with her even though she's not here. My mom did the same thing plus she planted a tree where she was buried in her back yard. Every year we sit out in the back yard near her tree and have a heart to heart conversation about her.

It's been almost 6 years and we still talk about her, but not as emotional as we were at the beginning. It means we've healed over time. Of course, she will never ever be forgotten. Just make sure you talk about it with someone because it'll get easier. Even it hurts to talk about it, but you'll feel better afterwards. I'm glad you came here and talk about it. We're happy to share our feelings.

*HUGS*
