In my state, the judge may grant a name change when she grants the divorce. I know someone who gave herself a complete new last name when she divorced (she made it up!). Some women change back to their maiden name and some women keep the married name (usually because they have kids or have a professional reputation connected with that name).

You can always change your name as long as it's not some evil purpose like to defraud creditors. It's a simple petition filed at the courthouse, and you just explain to the judge why you want the name change. It's probably a hassle to get everything changed on your own personal accounts and records. You can take the judgment with the judge's signature to prove your new name.
