A real long time ago (about 10 years ago) I was with a girl and she dumped me. When she dumped me she said that she couldn't be with me because music was her life and she couldn't share that with me because I couldn't hear (I didn't have a CI at the time). And get this...she was hard of hearing....she was doing singing gigs at the time in clubs. She had invited me to one of her gigs and right before she was due to sing on the stage she dumped me....just wow.
I was just...gobsmacked when she said that...WTF...she CAN share music with me even if I am Deaf...that was a real ignorant break-up line! Oh yeah, she was raised orally...I cried for days...
Now I am with my fiance and he was also raised oral but learned sign in middle school. We've been together for 3 years and engaged for 2 years, and we're still going strong. We communicate well.
