Subject: New Internet TTY Technology Helps the Deaf
New Internet TTY technology is now available from Lormar Logic Company in the form of wireless TRS (Relay Operator), wirelessTTY, and Internet TTY calling.
The wireless TRS gateway ( www.iptty.com ) is accessible free of charge from any Internet connection. Unlike the IP Relay services which became available last year, which do not work on most wireless devices, this service is designed specifically for wireless browsers.
Compatible devices include all the newly popular devices within the deaf community, including T-Mobile's Sidekick(tm), Palm's Tungsten (tm), Handspring's Treo(tm), and RIM's various Blackberry(tm) units.
The wireless TTY service has a different gateway (www.ttycall.com). This service works very similar to the wireless TRS service, except than an annual membership fee is required for access.
TTY and TRS calls can also be placed to the wireless devices by
dialing a special access number (865-862-0626). This service requires no signup or membership.
Internet TTY calling also uses the www.ttycall.com gateway ("Desktop" option) and requires an annual fee. This service allows TTY calls to be placed from any Internet-ready computer. This service may be of significant benefit in the workplace, schools, and other government/public facilities.
