You pretty much said everything.
The problem with those "friends" websites is that some people have to be friends with everyone... no matter what.
I've had people request to be my friend just because they wanted to or because they saw me a few months ago and that meant we were friends.
One guy requested to be my friend, but I didn't recognize the name. I asked him where he knew me from. His response? "We met 3 months ago. I was walking down the hall and dropped my book. You picked the book up for me. So, we're friends."
There are some people who are just competing to have the most friends. I've seen some who have over 1,000 friends. He probably only talks to 10 of them.
I only become friends with people that I consider to be good friends and those that I trust. These people are usually the ones that I've met in real life.
