More than 5,000 people participated in the first Deaf War. The most recent Deaf Way was in 2002, again at Gallaudet University, with more than 8,000 people participating as performers or festival attendees. It has said that the Deaf Way festival is the reason why other festivals popped up across the United States and in Europe. While people at Gallaudet say they would love to host a third festival, it is a huge financial burden on the University and they hope someone or even some country, such as Australia, will host Deaf Way III.
